The "Zeit im Bild" anchorman and journalist Tobias Poetzelsberger is also a gifted musician. On February 28, 2025, he will come to Lienz with his band at the invitation of the City Culture to present his new album "Prudence" at the City Hall. And that"s worth listening to!
It took Tobias Poetzelsberger twelve years to present a new album. That"s a pretty long time, but then again not really when you consider that children are born, adults have to leave, pandemics and wars break out, careers are pursued – and songwriting can be complicated. Long on the calendar, short in feeling. Hello, life!
This life is now also the subject of "Prudence", the new work of the native Upper Austrian. It is a collection of songs that have emerged in these twelve years. And they mark a transformation: on the one hand away from the previous band name "The More Or The Less", on the other hand towards a broader musical color palette. Of course, we are still fundamentally talking about folk-pop here, which can be reminiscent of Glen Hansard as well as Fleetwood Mac, Death Cab for Cutie or Gregory Alan Isakov. But compared to thepredecessor albums "We, the people" (2009) and "Keep Calm" (2012), we hear more drums, more drive, more shades in the arrangement, much sounds more open and larger.
However, "Prudence" also means more. Poetzelsberger wants it to be translated as "Prudence", because: "This is essential missing in the world right now. To look at each other, to have more openness or even tolerance towards others. And in addition, a prudent process with one"s own soul and state. Because as one gets older, one also carries more with oneself." Perhaps an attitude that is partly fueled by Poetzelsberger"s main profession as a television maker, because delivering bad news is not always pleasant.
But let"s rather hear some Good News: This album is excellently produced, mastermind Niklas Apfel has once again done a great job. These nine songs sound warm, clear, and differentiated. Or, as Tobias Poetzelsberger once stated as the band motto: "It’s music to make your heart shine".
